Job Title: Special Assistant
Department: WVSTO Executive Division

Salary: $35,000-$45,000; salary commensurate with education and experience. Full-time employees of the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office (WVSTO) are eligible for Public Employee Insurance Agency benefits and a number of other benefits available to state employees.

Division: WVSTO Executive Division

Reports To: State Treasurer

Job Duties:

  • Performs various special assignments and projects as directed by the State Treasurer.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Assistant to provide a comprehensive range of support actions for the Executive division.
  • Performs messenger and delivery work; carries out official STO errands as directed by the State Treasurer.
  • Provides and coordinates transportation for the Executive staff to official meetings or events; some overnight travel may be required.
  • Conducts special studies of a confidential nature.
  • Conducts research assigned by Executive staff for various topics and projects.
  • Provides support for projects assigned in conjunction to the legislative process.
  • Addresses miscellaneous needs and Executive staff requests as they arise.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent required. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred; six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and must maintain such for duration of employment.
  • This position involves considerable physical activity. Must be able to physically move or carry a range of objects and materials. Must be able to traverse office facilities to pick up mail. Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state officials, program leaders, and the public.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; especially Word and Excel.
